Tango Dance Theatre
VACIO - Innovative tango dance theatre
Agustina Vignau and Hugo Mastrolorenzo, winners of the Tango World Championship 2016, will be performing their second full-length stage work VACIO at the Tango Festival Rhein-Ruhr 2025 in Witten.
The work combines tango, dance, theatre and audiovisual art. It is a danced and filmed drama about the problems of loneliness and the desire for companionship, about the joys and struggles in relationships and the subsequent emptiness (Spanish: VACIO) when the pain slowly creeps out after separation and space for something new emerges.
All of this is tango and as such is expressed in dance by Agustina Vignau and Hugo Mastrolorenzo. They dance to many classics of tango music, and the dance often draws on well-known dance figures. But it is not about the beauty of the danced figures, it is about tango as a means of dance expression for the greatest joy, despair, emptiness and new beginnings.

The piece consists of 10 scenes, which are narrated on film on the one hand and danced live on the other. The film, in which Agustina and Hugo are also the main characters, provides clues for a common thread that connects the 10 scenes. The film works with metaphorical, surrealistic language, sometimes surreal images and the use of symbolic elements. This alone triggers thoughts and feelings and is related to the danced energy and passion by each visitor.

Hugo and Agustina's way of working is unique in the tango cosmos and is an experience not only for tango enthusiasts, but for anyone who is curious about tango as a contemporary culture. You can't leave this
80-minute multimedia piece without being deeply moved.
